My artist’s talk and presentation of work at MAD (Murate Art District) on Wednesday 15 March in conversation With art historian Giovanna Giusti will involve a reassessment of works that originated in Florence many years ago and the journeys that both they and I have made since
then.
Rea Stavropoulos, artista britannica di origini greche, che a lungo ha vissuto a Fi- renze traendone forza e materia alla sua ricerca, esprime la sua personalità artisti- ca con elaborazioni complesse ed originali.
Affidando alla struttura circolare della carta la sua visione, combina forme e conte- nuti in un abbraccio che accoglie un sentire intimo e poetico e di cui si avvale per esplorare sia il mondo della natura che la complessità fisica e morale della donna. Nascono così i Secret gardens, colonne autoportanti, aperte all!esplorazione dello spazio, ma la ricerca si amplia all!indagine dello spazio creativo della donna artista e alle sue potenzialità. Tutto induce a “cercare e trovare!, offrendo un fronte/retro nel duplice linguaggio della pittura e della scrittura, spesso in forma poetica. Con le sue carte circolari Rea Stavropoulos ci confida una incessante ricerca, i dubbi, le scoperte , le aspirazioni di una donna che scruta il viaggio intrapreso da artiste del passato per trovare risposta nella contemporaneità.
In dialogo con la storica dell!arte Giovanna Giusti, Rea Stavropoulos parla del suo percorso di studio, mostrando le ricerche e le proposte con immagini e con alcune delle sue poetiche carte circolari.

Rea Stavropoulos, a British artist of Greek origin who has lived for many years in Florence draws strength and inspiration from the city for her research and expresses her artistic personality through complex and original works.
Using a circular paper format to develop her vision, she merges form and content in a kind of em- brace that speaks of a poetic sensibility and creates a sense of intimacy with the viewer. She uses this format to explore both the natural world and the experience of being a woman, in its physical and spiritual complexity.
This is how the Secret Gardens originated, as freestanding columns, opening out towards an ex- ploration of space, but the research widened and becomes an exploration of the creative space of a woman artist and of her potential development.
Everything leads to “search and find” (cercare e trovare), offering two sides, front / back, through the dual language of painting and text, often in the form of poetry. Through her circular paper- works, Rea Stavropoulos shares with us her continuous research, the doubts, discoveries and ambitions of a woman who examines the journeys of artists of the past to find a response in the present.
In conversation with the art historian Giovanna Giusti, Rea Stavropoulos will talk about her journey of exploration with images and some of her poetic paperworks.
