Rea Stavropoulos's work combines delicacy and dynamism. It links
the female figure with the changing forms and colours of the natural
environment through a variety of media including video, artists’
books and collaborative performance. She has worked over the last
nine years on an “outdoor canvas”, creating a garden on
a Tuscan hillside.
“I have lived and travelled between two cultures, Greek and
English, since I was a baby and there is now a third, since I live
in Italy for much of the year. Travelling from an early age across
Europe at a time when a train journey was a real adventure, I experienced
the exhilaration of shifting perspectives, new angles of vision and
an intense appreciation of the light, mood, colour and atmosphere
that distinguish each country. That sense of excitement and discovery
is what motivates my work: exploring the fragile beauty and grandeur
of the world and my place within it.” |
